Friends, FWB or more ?

My best (male) friend and I are in a weird relationship. We talk a lot about our life dreams and things that are important in life, but we have also slept together a number of times and every time it has been CRAZY pionate, many hours worth :-) he has always talked about how wonderful our physical connection is as well as how we can talk about anything. He also used to say how he felt a very strong connection with me from the first second he saw me and in joke even asked me to marry him many times. Still we are not dating in the clical sense. lately he emails me all day long and worries if i do not respond, but he has not initiated physical contact although he always wants to hug. He always wants to share important things with me first. He is dealing with some family problems right now, but I am worried that he is trying to distance himself from me because he has not initiated . Am I delusional to think there is something more than friends going on here?
