Is the First Amendment the only thing stopping some Christian sects from taking over America?

The First Amendment is a protection FOR the People. But that is also why there was no state religion established in the beginning. Many people came to this land for religious freedom, and that is the purpose of guaranteeing it in the First Amendment, so that it would not just be umed and one day be lost.
