Would leaving him alone make him come back?

i have kids with this guy. now expecting another with him. on baby # 2. we've been together for 3 yrs off an on. i use to be very controlling and moody a lot to him. but it slowly got better when i learned to let him be and then all of a sudden he read some txt msgs on my phone and said it was over. i got so angry and mistakenly tore most of his clothes. then i got guilty and replaced them with new ones. i deeply miss him and am giving him time without contacting him at all to see if he will come back or not. ppl r telling me to leave him alone and its been two days without contact. ive been doubting it and its making me very depressed. i mean i really messed up, he doesnt want to c or hear me at all. but on his bday we went out together and ate out. would that mean anything??? and wud it really work if i left him alone?
