What are some great pieces of literature?

I'm looking for some good summer readings. I'm considering changing my major to English this coming semester, and I hope that by getting some great literature crammed into my head, it will help me to make up my mind. I'm pretty open to all sorts of genre, but I'm a huge American Renaissance fan. I did a fair share of reading in high school. The clics like: To Kill a Mockingbird, Hamlet, King Lear, Poisonwood Bible, Dante's Inferno, Heart of Darkness, The Crucible, Gatsby, The Scarlet Letter, Crime and Punishment, Catcher in the Rye, Fahrenheit 451, Animal Farm, etc. I'm still interested to hear what you think, even if some of these repeat. I'm just desperate for a good book! What are your favorites?
