Why are the Prophets revered?

i think with some things they have to ask for the wisdom to figure out whats been told to them. like with a dream or vision. Jesus is God's son not just some prophet. as for the others i only heard of a couple of them and i just dont see how an angel or whoever they claim that visited them would tell them something that just dont match up to the doctrine.
