If a father takes you to court for visitation rights and establishe parternity was wouldnt i get cs?

i am in alabama my kids father petioned me to court for visits and established paternity, he is the father dna came back, judge ordered visits every monday for a 20 mth old? and didnt order any child support? nothing is in writing it is verbal by judge he has been arrested for domestic and he never paid me any thing in child support how is this fair? and now we going back to court this week and to put everything in writing for visits i asked my lawyer what about child support she said he took you to court so its what he wants? i dont get this at all. any advice
